Biographical Information:
GOLDBERG, Jack S., 89, of Gulfport, beloved husband of Betty Goldberg, father of Dr. Renee JG Arnold and Michael Goldberg,
and grandfather of Marc Arnold, died Nov. 23, 2014, due to complications from a hip fracture he suffered approximately two months ago.
Jack was born May 10, 1925 in Bronx, NY, attended school in Brooklyn, NY, and then graduated from George Washington University School of Pharmacy in Washington, DC,
receiving the prestigious Merck award and graduating number one in his class. He and his wife were married for 61 years and have lived in the St. Petersburg area for 31 years.
Jack was the consummate professional pharmacist -- "Doc" to everyone who sought his advice. His daughter garnered her love of pharmacology from him. Jack owned his own pharmacy,
together with his wife, for approximately 26 years in Silver Spring, MD and then again in Glassell Park, Los Angeles, CA for three years before relocating to Florida,
where he worked for multiple pharmacy chains in various supervisory capacities. He was an avid tennis player and formidable opponent until about age 75,
where he had nicknames such as "Get-Em-Back-Jack" and "Crazylegs". His favorite line-nothing ventured, nothing gained-has been a Goldberg family mantra;
this simple saying has often borne fruit for the family. Jack was a decorated veteran with the US Army Air Force, having served during World War II and received the American Theater Service Ribbon,
Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Three words that sum up his life are integrity, honesty and empathy. Funeral services will be held on
Tuesday, Nov. 25, 9:30 am at the David C. Gross Funeral Home, 6366 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jack's memory to the US Holocaust Museum.
